So, 9Ct. has the earliest of them, dating the pen to 1931\/1932.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pen is constructed in Black Chased Hard Rubber (BCHR), There is some brown patina, I have made no attempt to change it as it is really part of the aging process.  The brown patina is accelerated by exposure to light, so a pen that has been kept in the dark, a box, for example may still retain the black colour.  The surface is good and has a nice finish, the imprint is just legible. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere is a second imprint which reads 'Education Supply, Oxford'.  I think it highly unlikely that the pens were supplied to schools, fountain pens were relatively expensive items after all.  Most 'state' schools were using dip pens up until the 1960s.  Perhaps the imprint refers to Oxford University or a company that supplied Eton and the like!  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA very distinctive and practical feature of the Scribe is the arrangement of threads on the end of the barrel to facilitate posting of the cap.  In this configuration the pen is a most impressive 16.5 cm. in length.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe barrel imprint reads:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv Gold clip.  Only traces of the blue colour remain but I decided not to paint in the diamond in the spirit of conservative restoration.  Similarly the slight fading of the barrel colour below the point where the cap fits has been left alone, it must have taken many decades without use to appear.  The grey finish is excellent as is the Sterling Silver 'Heritage' cap.  The cap is engraved with fine longitudinal lines, the cap band has a chevron pattern and the clip is 14Ct. Gold, later ones were Gold filled.  \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe filling unit was fitted with a new diaphragm as the original had hardened with age and the pen now fills very well.  The 14Ct.
