Sampson Mordan Silver Chatelaine pencil holder.

Regular price £85.00

Sampson Mordan are amongst the most collectable manufacturers of writing instruments.  This solid Silver pencil holder, often known as a 'carpenters pencil' was produced, in England in 1914 and is virtually as it was then.

It is stamped 'S. Mordan & Co' with a clear hallmark 'S.M. & Co', the 'lion rampant' for English silver, a 'sword erect between three wheat sheaves' for Chester, and a stylised '0' for 1914.

The closed length is 85mm. and the original 'L & C Hardmuth' HB pencil gives an 'in use' length of 135 mm., without the ring.

The pencil holder is in outstanding condition, there are no 'dings' or other blemishes and the pattern, consisting of small diamonds is very sharp, it shows no wear.

The age and condition of this item clearly qualify it as a collectors' piece but it would also make an unusual and attractive pendant.  Oh, and you could also write with it!
