Waterman's Ideal 5 in 'Jet'. 1930s.

Regular price £155.00

Finished in classic black with Gold trim, this is a large, impressive Waterman's Ideal pen, made in Canada in the 1930s.  It features in the 1933 catalogue as a

'Waterman's No. 5 Jet'

'Ideal' was used in the name of Waterman's pens to signify that the model was fitted with an 'Ideal' nib, an upgrade to the standard nib fitted to most Waterman pens.

The pen has been fully serviced and tested.  The 'box' lever filling system, also a 'high end' feature, works well and takes up a good volume of ink.  The 14 Ct. gold nib writes wit a medium line and has a small, but pleasing amount of flex giving line width variation.

At 12.8 cm. capped and a most impressive 16.2 cm. when posted for use this is a large, chunky pen with a very distinguished classic appearance.  The black colour gave the pen it's name, ' Waterman's Jet'.  It has an excellent surface with a good, deep shine and clear imprints on the barrel and cap.  The 'stepped' cap stud is a very distinctive feature.

The Waterman 5 Jet is a rare pen and is very collectable.  It is also very 'handsome' in the traditional sense and would make an eye-catching and reliable daily writer.
