The Caran D'Ache Ecridor is now being reproduced as the 'Ecridor Retro' pencil which sells for £120. This pencil is the original Ecridor dating from the 1950s.
The clip bears the longitudinal engravings 'Caran D'Ache' and 'Fabrique en Suisse' and, at 12cm. in length is very slightly shorter than the modern 'tribute' pencil which has an unmarked clip.
The pencil is in excellent condition with no dings although there is a very slight mark on the clip. It is not hallmarked but it certainly has the look and feel of solid Silver, although the Retro is palladium plated. There is no brassing or visible base material. The interior of the blind cap is also silver in colour and not brass as one would expect in a plated item.
A clutch type pencil, it operates by depressing the button at the end of the barrel, this is a little erratic at the moment but I'll service the pencil fully before dispatch.
Hexagonal in section the barrel is decorated with a finely engraved guilloche pattern giving the appearance of small diamond shapes on each of the six facets.
The early Caran D'Ache Ecridor pencil is extremely difficult to come by and is very collectable. At getting on for seventy years old this is a particularly fine example.
