It was made in black and three ' Herringbone' colours: Blue, Red, and Green.

Characterised by the distinctive 'Grecian band', black cap and barrel studs, and Conway Stewart No. 5 14Ct Gold nib, the pen also features the 'Speedy-Phil' filling system.

It is now very difficult to find a Conway Stewart 74 with an original working filler, most have been replaced with a Parker 51 part, or similar. The original Speedy-Phil on this pen has been overhauled by a specialist and is in excellent working order.

The pen is in superb condition, it has a deep vibrant colour, showroom finish with a strong imprint, and excellent Gold filling. The cap is a smooth screw fit, tightening with one and a half turns.

At 16.5 cm./6.5 inches with the cap posted on the barrel for use, the 74 is an extremely long and elegant pen. The 14Ct Gold No.5 nib is straight and well aligned, it writes with a smooth medium line with just the correct amount of 'feel'. There is just a suggestion of flex, probably better described as having aa soft feel.

The Conway Stewart 74 Green Herringbone pen is very highly collectable, an all original working pen is a rarity. It is also an outrageously attractive but practical pen with a great deal of 'presence'.
