parker-21-super-in-grey
Parker 21 Super in Grey

The Parker 21 Mk.1 was only made from 1948 to 1951 when the section and cap design were modified for the Mk. 2 version, a more practical pen than the original. In 1953 the Parker 21 Super, this pen, was introduced. The 21 was discontinued in 1965, probably because the Parker 45 was now a competitor.

In 1957 a 'halo' was added to the cap, this pen has the halo so can be dated after 1957. The four finger clutch mechanism in the cap and 21 imprint suggest an early 1960s pen.

This is a particularly fine example. Finished in grey, with a stainless steel cap and the redesigned 'arrow' clip, it is in first class, unused condition. The original pli-glass ink sac is clear and unstained.

The barrel and hood are pristine. The colour, much lighter lighter grey than it appears in the photographs, is perticularly well matched with the steel cap. It is a most attractive pen.

The 21 was fitted with an 'Octanium' nib, so called because it is made from eight differen materials. It is more robust than a gold nib and writes very well, producing a smooth medium to broad line,

The Parker 21 is an extremely good choice as an unusual and dependable every day writer and is often favoured rather than the much more expensive Parker 51 to which it bears a close resemblance. Comparisons apart, the Parker 21 Super is an excellent pen in its own right.
