The Esterbrook J series was made in three sizes, this 'standard J' is the largest. The Esterbrook imprint does not have the 'R' registration stamp, signifying it is an early pen.
Finished in Cobalt Blue, the pen is in excellent working condition and is presented in the original box along with instruction leaflet.
The Esterbrook nibs were produced as the 'Dura', an all steel nib, and the 'Master', which had an iridium tip. The nibs numbered 9xxx were Master nibs, this 9314-B is listed as a broad stub nib. The stub profile produces line variation without the added pressure required by a flexible nib, it is much easier to use, producing the variation 'naturally'.
The J pens were very well made form durable materials and have a very attractive, unique mottled pattern. It is rare to find one in this condition along with the original packaging.
