Mabie Todd Swan 3230

Regular price £85.00

The Mabie Todd Swan 3230 was produced in the late 1940s in England as part of a 'new colour' range, this is a very fine example.  The numbering system used by Mabie Todd at the time is refreshingly transparent. The first digit is the filler type (3=lever), the second the nib size (2) and the last two digits are a colour code (30=grey).

The pen has been restored and is in excellent working condition.  It is unusual in that the colour is still as bright as it was when new, the majority of 1940s grey pens are discoloured to an unsightly yellow/brown colour.  Many manufacturers, including Mabie Todd, abandoned the colour for this reason.  The barrel imprints are crisp and clear.

Mabie Todd were very protective of their Swan brand, every component bears a Swan name or logo.  The barrel, section, nib, feed, and cap are all clearly marked on this pen.

A lever filler, the pen has an unusually long Gold filled locking leve.  The patented locking system was introduced to prevent the lever from catching on a shirt pocket as the pen was replaced, with catastrophic results.

The 14Ct. Gold Swan nib is glorious, it produces a super smooth broad line.  One of thise pens that encourages writing with a flourish, it would particularly suit someone with a large, bold hand.
