Parker 51 Classic. 1958 - 1961

Regular price £95.00

Parker 51 pens are usually difficult to date exactly but often design changes, even minor ones, can narrow it down.  This pen has a 'halo' on the cap, added in 1958, and the original clutch inside the cap, which was replaced with a 'finger clutch' in 1962.  These changes didn't happen overnight, as Parker were always keen to use up old stock parts, so there is always some leeway.

Finished in black, the pen is in excellent condition throughout.  It has a very good finish and the barrel imprint, identifying it as an English made pen, is clearly legible.  As the imprint is just below the clutch ring, where the cap fits over the barrel, the imprint often suffers wear and becomes worn or non existent.  A clear imprint is one indicator of light use.

The 'Lustralloy' cap is free from dings and has a good surface.  The chrome plated clip is secured with a brass bush which houses a pearl coloured cap stud, or jewel.

The pen has been fully serviced and tested.  The filling system works well and the 14 Ct. Gold nib writes with a very smooth and consistent medium line.  The hooded nib design of the Parker 51 precludes any flexibility but Parker managed to produce a very pleasing 'soft' feel in the nib, it is a very 'easy' and comfortable writer.

The Parker 51 has been described as 'the best pen Parker ever made' and this example certainly supports that claim, it would make a first class, and prestigious, every day writer.
