This Sheaffer Imperial Touchdown set, comprising a fountain pen and propelling pencil, was produced, in the U.S.A., around 1970. It has been fully serviced, including new washers and seals to the pen, and is in first class working condition.
The Touchdown filling system is very quick and efficient, taking up a good volume of ink in a single stoke of the plunger. It was much more expensive to produce than the cartridge/converter version of the pen and has a more solid feel.
The pen and pencil are perfectly matched, the very end of the pen barrel has a scuff and there is the tiniest of pin marks on the barrel, but Gold filling is bright and the fine longitudinal lines unworn and clearly defined.
The 'inlaid diamond' nib is stamped as 14K and made in U.S.A. It is a great writer, producing a super smooth medium line. The pencil operates by rotating the cap to extend and retract the lead.
One of the top end Imperials, this outrageously attractive set is presented in a hard 'Sheaffer Proud Craftsman' case, also in excellent condition.
