The Parker 45 was introduced in 1960 and the De Luxe G.T. (Gold Trim) with a 14Ct. Gold nib, was added to the line up in 1967. In 1970 the design of the cap stud was changed , as this pen has the earlier stud it can be dated from between 1967 and 1970.
Finished in red, the pen is immaculate and could well be new old stock, although I have inked it once for testing purposes. It has a flawless factory finish with a Gold filled clutch ring, cap band, clip, and cap stud,
I did dismantle the pen, a simple task, to check that it was indeed the original 14 Ct. Gold nib. It is clearly stamped as '14K Gold'. It is a great writer, delivering a super smooth, medium line.
The 45 is a very convenient and practical pen with a distinct advantage over many cartridge fillers in that it is so quick and easy to dismantle for cleaning that changing ink colours is possible without need for a tedious and unsatisfactory repeated cleaning and flushing procedure. A new cartridge is included so the pen is ready to write.
At 14.5 cm. posted for use the Parker 45 De Luxe is a good sized pen with a solid, well balanced feel. It has the practicality and ease of use to qualify it as a first class vintage every day writer at a fraction of the cost of a new gold nibbed pen.
