The Parker Duofold Senior aerometric filler is usually claimed to have been produced from 1954, but this pen, which is definitely a Senior, has a clear date code on the barrel for the first quarter of 1953. It seems that either this is a pre production pen or the accepted date is out by a year.
The pen is finished in classic black with a Gold filled, chevron engraved cap band and Gold filled clip. It is in excellent condition with light signs of use. The pen surface is first class and the Gold filling similarly pristine. The cap is a smooth screw fit, it tightens securely with one and a quarter turns and carries a black cap jewel.
The pen has been fully serviced and tested. The aerometric filling system is easy to use and works well. The correct 14Ct. Gold No. 35 nib is larger than the standard Duofold nib and is a great writer. It delivers a super smooth, broad line and has a stub profile giving line variation with no effort. It is a very comfortable and 'easy' pen that encourages writing with a flourish.
The Duofold Senior is a very large pen, 16.3 cm. (well over 6 inches), in length when posted for use. It is well balanced and has a solid, high quality feel.
A new, high quality box has been provided which will serve well for transportation, protection, and display.
The Senior topped the line up of the Duofold aerometric models until the introduction of the Maxima. It is now very collectable and not at all easy to find in such excellent condition.
