The Sheaffer Targa 1005, introduced in 1976, is constructed in brass with a deep cut fluted pattern in 23Ct. Gold electroplate. It is a full sized 'Classic' pen, the slim version is the 1005s. The original box sleeve does not have a barcode. As these were in common use in the 1980s the set is likely to be an early one.
The set, comprising a fountain pen and matching ballpoint, is in outstanding condition throughout and is probably unused. The sticker showing the model of pen and nib size, a fine, is still in place and the original box is sound and clean. An unopened pack of two ink cadridges is included and the original ink converter is fitted to the pen.
It has the 14Ct. Gold 'inlaid diamond' nib with a fine point. These nibs were made 'from scratch' by Sheaffer, starting with ingots of 24Ct. Gold, copper and silver which were mixed to conform to the 14 Ct. standard.
The Targa 1005 sat well towards the top of the Targa range. It is an outrageously attractive pen with the robustness and practicality to make an eye-catching daily writer.
