Jewel 46 in Marbled Blue

Regular price

This pen is now reserved.

Although the Jewel pen company is one of Britain's lesser known manufacturers it is also one of the oldest.  It was founded in 1884 as agents for American made pens.  By the early 1900s the company was producing its own pens.

The Jewel 46 was only offered between 1943 and 1945, one of only three models the company was able to produce due to wartime restrictions and difficulties with materials and workforce.

Finished in a pearlised marbled blue, the pen is of extremely high quality, it has some particularly attractive features such as the 'J' emblem on the lever and the colour coded end plate on the barrel.

This example is in superb condition throughout.  It has a 'showroom' finish with clear imprints and excellent gold filling to the clip, lever, and triple cap bands.  The cap is a smooth  and secure screw fit, tightening with one and a quarter turns.

The pen has been fully serviced and tested, the lever filling system works well and the nib is straight and well aligned.  It is a Jewel own brand 'Super' 14Ct. Gold nib, clearly stamped.  It writes smoothly with just a suggestion of flex giving enough line variation to add character to the writing.  At a most impressive 16cm. when posted the Jewel is a well balanced and substantial pen with a solid, high quality feel.

The pen comes with the original box and instruction leaflet, both in very good condition.  There is no doubt that the box is original, it is stamped as a 'Jewel 46 Medium in Blue'.

The Jewel 46 is a rare pen, a near mint, boxed example particularly so.  It would clearly fit well in a vintage English pen collection but could also serve well as a reliable and attractive daily writer.
