The Mabie Todd Swan 3250 was one of the Swan pens, made, in England, immediately after the cessation of hostilities, in 1946. Prior to that the machines that had survived the bombings had been dedicated to the war effort.
The pen has been fully restored and tested and is in excellent working condition. The lever filling system takes up a good volume of ink and the 14Ct. Gold Swan No.2 nib writes with a smooth, medium to broad line and has a good flex to add character to the writing. My scrawl does it no justice.
the Swan numbering system, at the time this pen was produced was quite straightforward. The first digit represented the filler type, in this case '3' for lever, the second digit was the nib size '2', and the last two digits were a colour code, '50' for Burgundy. This is a very deep, rich maroon colour, tending to a dark reddish brown.
The surface is first class and the imprints, and there are many of them, are very crisp and clear. The Gold filling on the clip, lever and cap rings is similarly pristine.
The pen is supplied in a new, high quality box that will serve well for transport, protection, and display.
At 15.5 cm. posted for use the Swan 3260 is a long and well balanced pen with a solid, high quality feel. The classic Burgundy and Gold filling give it a most attractive yet distinguished appearance. Burgundy Swans are very hard to come by and highly collectable.
