Parker 51 Classic Boxed Set in Navy Grey. 1955

Regular price

The Parker 51 Aerometric was introduced in 1948, replacing the earlier Vacumatic version. This Classic 51 set, comprising a fountain pen and mechanical pencil, was made in 1955, both items carry a date code to that effect.

The set, finished in a light grey colour, called Navy Grey by Parker, is in first class condition throughout, it has been fully serviced and tested.  The set is constructed in 'Lucite', a hard wearing material known as' Perspex' in the U.K.  With a 'showroom' finish with a deep shine, ding free 'Lustralloy' caps and chromed 'arrow' clips secured by a brass bush and a  pearl cap stud, it is a strikingly attracrive set.

Navy Grey is one of the less common 51 colours, at the time black was the most popular, perhaps a legacy from the time when virtually all pens were black.  Navy Grey is, arguably, the only 51 colour that looks better with a Lustralloy 'Classic' cap than the 'Custom' rolled gold version.

The 'Aerometric', press bar filler system is  easy to use and works well, instructions are printed on the filler sleeve.  The nib is 14Ct, Gold, it delivers a smooth fine to extra fine line, ideally suited to someone with a small 'hand' or for more detailed work.

The pencil has a continuous feed mechanism, it operates by pushing the cap to extend the lead.  A new lead has been fitted and spare leads are stored in the barrel, accessed by removing the eraser.

The Parker 51 box is something of a collectors item in its own right. The chords need tightening but it is in excellent, clean condition and original to the set.

The Parker 51 has been described as 'the best pen Parker ever made' and this example certainly supports that claim, it would make a first class, and prestigious, daily writer.  A complete and correct 51 set in such remarkable condition is hard to find and highly collectable.
