The Parker 51, with a 'lustralloy' cap, was known as the 'Classic'. Finished in black, this is a fine example dating between 1952 and 1957. These dates correspond to the shortening of the clip and addition of a 'halo' to the cap respectively, this pen has the short clip and no halo.
The pen has been fully serviced and tested and is in excellent condition throughout. The black 'Lucite' body is in showroom condition and the lustralloy cap is ding free with a bright chrome clip and pearl grey cap stud.
The 'pli-glass' ink sac is in good condition and is totally unstained and clear. This is usually a sign of very sparing use and careful storage.
The 14 Ct Gold nib writes with a super smooth and consistent broad line, perfectly suited to someone with a large bold 'hand' and enjoys writing with a flourish. Parker 51 nibs are renowned as good writers and were largely hand made so their is a little variance between nibs of the same specification. This one is exceptional. Although the hooded design precludes any flex, Parker managed to imbue the 51 nib with a very pleasing 'soft' feel, making the pen an easy and comfortable writer.
The Parker 51 is one of the few pens that have earned iconic status. The broad nib on this pen is much sought after, it would make a first class, and prestigious, every day writer.
