Parker 51 Mk. IV. Set in Red. 1971-1972. The last 51.

Regular price

The Parker 51 Mk. lV replaced the Mk. III in 1971. It is essentially a Mk. lll with a metal cap stud, although the pencil stud was unchanged.  Apparently there was concern about toddlers ingesting the pearl cap stud on the earlier pen.  Production of the Parker 51 ceased at the end of 1972, although they continued to be sold for a short while afterwards.  This pen is the last of the 'true' Parker 51s.

The set is a 'Classic' version featuring a Lustralloy cap. Finished in red, the set is in outstanding condition throughout.  It has a showroom finish with a deep shine, the original 'pli-glass' ink sac is transparent, and the eraser is unworn suggesting that the set has seen very little use.

It has been fully serviced and tested.  The 'Aerometric' filling system works well and the 14 Ct. Gold nib writes with a smooth and consistent line wiyh a [leasing soft feel.

The pencil has a smooth rotary action, operated by turning the cap to extend and retract the lead.  I haven't attempted to remove the eraser as they become brittle with age.

the set is presented in a new, high quality case which will serve well for transportation, protection, and display.

The Parker 51 is the most successful pen ever made and has gained a reputation as a stylish, trouble free, practical pen.  It would make a first class every day writer and has a great deal of prestige.  Due to the very short production run there aren't many Mk. IV 51s around.
