This is an exceptional, and very uncommon, Parker 51 fountain pen and pencil set in Black. There is no doubt about the provenance, the rolled Silver caps were only made for English pens and both the pen and pencil are stamped '2' for 1952. It is an original English made Parker 51 set.
The finish on this set is superb, it has a deep lustrous shine with no visible flaws. It has been fully serviced, the pen and pencil are in sound working order.
The set is presented in the original parker 'Parker 51' 'mock croc' box, a collectable item in its own right.
The rolled Silver caps, which are ding free with only light usage marks, carry pearl coloured end studs and a solid Gold clip.
The set has been fully serviced, cleaned and tested. The 14Ct. Gold nib has a fine point and it lays down a smooth, firm, fine line, perhaps a touch on the medium side of fine. Parker 51 nibs are not flexible, the design of the hood prevents this, but Parker somehow manage to give a 'soft' feel to their nibs, even fine points.
The aerometric filling system works perfectly, taking up a good volume of ink with four presses on the filler bar.
The pencil is a 'propeller' which is operated by turning the cap to expel the lead. the correct one for the set. It operates by pressing the cap to expel the lead.
The rolled Silver cap models are one of the most sought after English Parker 51 versions, they are not at all easy to find in this condition.
