The Parker 61 cartridge/converter filling system replaced the capillary filler in 1969. For a short time the pen was advertised, and packaged, as the 'New Parker 61.
The Parker 61 Custom features a rolled Gold cap, section 'arrow', clutch ring, and barrel tassie. The caps carry a pearl effect cap stud, this was replaced with a metal stud in 1975. The pen can therefore be dated from 1969 to 1975.
The pen shows only light usage marks and is in excellent condition. I decided to invest in a new old stock hood for the pen, it was already in good condition but the inlaid arrow on the old hood was insecure.
As the photograph shows, the pen was completely disassembled and a full restoration carried out. The 61 features the same 'ink governor' arrangement as the Parker 51 and the very fine fins can become blocked with old ink, a disassembly allows this to be thoroughly cleaned.
The fountain pen is fitted with the original ink converter and a new Parker ink cartridge is included so the pen is ready to write in either configuration.
The pen has a 14Ct. Gold nib of tubular construction. It is a first class writer, producing a smooth, line, perhaps a little on the fine side of medium.
The box is new, it is of high quality and will serve well for transportation, protection, and display.
