Parker Duofold AF
The Parker Duofold AF, for Aluminium Filler replaced the button filling version in 1948 and was, in turn, replaced by the 'Aerometric' in 1953. This example has the less common gold coloured aluminium filler button.
This is a particularly fine pen in Black with Gold filled trim. The pen has been fully restored and is in superb working condition. It has a deep lustrous shine, which contrasts well with the Gold trim, and a clear barrel imprint.
Testing showed that the slightly quirky filling system works well, it fills with just one press on the button and can be operate using one hand. The 14Ct. Gold Newhaven nib has a stub profile, similar to an Italic but with more rounded corners for a better writing experience. It delivers a super smooth line, the vertical strokes being wider than the horizontal. This offers line variation, adding character to the writing without the effort needed with a flex nib.
At 15.5 cm. posted, the Parker Duofold AF is a large, attractive, and prestigious pen, it would make an excellent every day vintage writer.
