Parker Duofold Slimfold in Red. Left Oblique Nib.

Regular price

The Parker Slimfold was added to the immensely successful U.K. Duofold range in 1962.  The cap and clip design was changed to the Mk. ll design in 1969 and the 'New Slimfold' was introduced in 1971.  Finished in red with gold trim and a 14Ct. gold nib, this is the original 1960s pen.

Despite the name the Slimfold is a very comfortable 14.6 cm. in length when posted for use, only marginally shorter than the Parker 51, although with a simmer profile.

The pen has been fully serviced and tested, it is in very good condition with only light usage marks.  The correct 14 Ct. Gold Parker no. 5. nib is very unusual in that it has a left oblique point, the slope is the same as a left foot when viewed from above.  This arrangement gives different line widths on the diagonal strokes, with a little practice this is very effective in adding character to the lettering.  It also has a small amount of flex which adds firther to the available line width variation.

It is interesting to compare the quality and price of this pen with a modern equivalent.  New gold nibbed pens start at over £100, most are a good deal more.  Very few modern pens have a built in filling system, the vast majority use cartridges, not a good thing in terms of plastic consumption, and none have the charm and character of of good vintage pen.
