The Parker Sonnet was released in 1994, this all metal Flighter G.T. rollerball pen was made in 1998, it carries a date code for the third quarter of that year.
It is important to note that this pen is a 100% genuine French made Parker Sonnet, not one of the 'Sonnet Series' Chinese made copies that now appear regularly online for a few pounds.
Parker coined the name 'Flighter' for it's all steel pens, partly because of Kenneth Parker's obsession with planes. The Flighters are just about as robust as a pen can get, the brushed steel construction is extremely strong and it's rare to see a Flighter with any 'dings'. The 'GT' refers to the Gold filled trim, there was also a chrome trim version.
This rollerball is in excellent condition and appears to have seen little, if any use. It has been fitted with a new Parker refill, these are much higher quality and longer lasting than the cheaper 'generic' refills often seen online.
The rollerball is now the fastest growing of the three main systems, the others being fountain pen and ballpoint. It gives a more pleasant writing experience than a ballpoint and is not a 'demanding' as a fountain pen.
