The Parker Sonnet was introduced in 1994 to replace the Parker 75 at the top of the Parker range. This Laque Forest Green Premier version, in absolutely superb condition, is date stamped for 1997, it was discontinued in that year.
The pen is constructed in brass and finished with multiple layers of lacquer to give a deep lustrous shine in green and black marble. The trim is 23 Ct. Gold plated, a little thin on the cap band, and is fitted with an 18Ct. Gold nib, only used on the Premier pens.
The nib is clearly stamped as 18K and 750, for 18Ct. Gold, along with the Parker name and a diamond shape containing an arrow between two 'p's. This is an important detail, as this pen is sometimes faked, but the fake pens never show this accurately, the logo appears as a simple cross in the diamond shape.
The pen is presented in the correct, very heavy, high quality clamshell box, along with an outer cardboard sleeve and filling instructions. It is fitted with the original De Luxe ink converter and will be supplied with a new ink cartridge so it is ready to write in either configuration.
The top end, French made Laque Sonnets, such as this example are great pens and are much sought after. It is unfortunate that the market is awash with pens advertised as 'Sonnet Series' pens which are nothing more than Chinese made, poor quality fakes that can be bought for a few pounds but will fall apart quite quickly. They are also, I'm afraid often sold at full price as 'real' Sonnets. I should therefore reiterate that this pen is 100%, guaranteed authentic.
