This pen is now reserved for M.B.
The Parker 51 aerometric filling system was introduced in 1948. In 1958 a 'halo' was added to the cap, and, around 1960 other small changes were made, indicating that this pen was made in the late 1950s.
The 51 is often described as 'the best pen ever made', it was often copied but never equalled. This is an outstanding English example, it has an excellent Teal Blue finish and a 'Lustralloy' cap.
The Teal colour, named after the wing flash on the duck with that name, is most attractive, it is definitely Blue but has a distinct Green tinge, it is not a common '51' colour.
The pen has a showroom finish and the lustralloy cap is ding free. It is fitted with a 'short arrow' clip and engraved with: 'Parker' at the front and 'Made in England along with the 'halo' at the back.
The pen has been fully serviced and tested, this is particularly important with a '51' as the fine fins in the collector are often clogged with dried ink, impairing performence. The aerometric filling system works well, it is very simple and easy to use.
The 14 Ct. Gold nib has a medium point which lays down a super smooth and consistent medium line. Just about all 51s are good writers but this one is exceptional, it is a pleasure to use, it's a pity my scrawl doesn't do it justice.
The box is missing the tray but it is in very clean condition and is the correct 'halo' box for the pen so should be retained.
At sixty odd years old at least, this is a remarkable top quality vintage pen. The Parker 51 is the first choice of many collectors as a daily user, it is a totally reliable, stylish and very practical pen with a great deal of prestige.
