This Burnham No.50, one of the first post-war numbered pens, is a large, high quality classic English lever filler.
The pen, constructed in black celluloid with gold trim, has been fully restored and is in excellent working condition. The lever filling system works well, the size 19 ink sac giving good ink capacity.
The pen has a very good finish with a deep shine and a strong barrel imprint. Unusually for a Burnham, the gold plating has held up very well. The 'teardrop' clip carries a gothic 'B', for Burnham, as does the 'lollipop' lever.
The nib, stamped 'Burnham. 14Ct. Gold' writes with a fine line with a small, but effective amount of flex giving some line width variation to add character to the writing.
At 13.2 cm. capped and a most impressive 16 cm. when posted this is one of the largest of the Burnham pens. It is very comfortable in use and has a solid, high quality feel.
At around eighty years old, the pen is in remarkable condition, it is an archetype of a 1940s British lever filler. While clearly collectable the pen would also serve as a most distinguished and unusual daily writer.
