The red hard rubber, vulcanite, pens of the 1920s, produced in patterns now known as 'red ripple' or 'woodgrain' were collectively termed 'mottled hard rubber'. This example doesn't bear any makers name although it is very similar in design, and quality, to contemporary pens by Watermans, Conway Stewart, and De La Rue.
The pen has been restored and is in excellent working condition. The hard rubber has a first class surface with a deep shine with no fading, the pattern ranges from orange to almost black.
The 14 Ct. Gold warranted nib is a gem, it writes smoothly and flexes from fine to extra broad. Someone with a decent 'hand' could produce most impressive 'copperplate' effects.
