The Parker 51 pencil design was changed, in 1948, from a rotary mechanism to a 'clutch' or 'clicker' type continuous feed. This design continued until 1957, when the rotary mechanism was reintroduced.
The pencil is in near mint condition and shows very little sign of use. The barrel, which has a showroom finish, carries a 'Made in Canada' imprint. The vast majority of Canadian made Parkers were exported to Europe, mainly U.K., as there were stringent export restrictions from the U.S.a at the time.
The 'Lustralloy' cap is also in excellent condition, it is ding free and retains the original semi matt finish.
Removal of the cap exposes the 'long eraser, which seems to have seen very little use. This can be removed to access a number of spare leads that are stored in the inner barrel.
The 'clutch pencil' mechanism is activated by pushing the cap to extend the lead with a manual retraction.
