The Waterman Gentleman 'new style' first appeared in the catalogues in 1982. It was a very high ranking pen in the Waterman hierarchy, the completely Gold plated version, this pen, was second only to the solid Silver model.
The pen is in excellent condition throughout, showing only very light usage marks.
The 23 Ct. Gold plating continues from the end of the barrel through to the 18 Ct. Gold nib, a very handsome, fully exposed affair, clearly marked:
Waterman, 18K, 750, Made in France.
The pen is a fabulous writer, it delivers a wonderfully smooth medium line effortlessly.
Visually, the combination of the nib and the fully Gold plated section is most striking and reminiscent of the highest quality pens of several decades ago. Generally modern Gold plated fountain pens have a plastic section to facilitate interchangeability but the Waterman Gentleman makes no such concessions.
At 14.2 cm. capped and a most impressive16.3 cm. posted the Gentleman is an extremely long and elegant pen. With typical attention to detail the cap is engineered in such a way that the metal rim does not come into contact with the barrel when posted, the end of the barrel 'clicks' into a 'soft' clutch in the cap. The cap band, and the clip bear a Waterman hallmark.
The pen is a cartridge/converter filler and is supplied with the original Waterman ink converter and ink cartridge so it is ready to wrie in either configuration The original case is in excellent condition, complete with outer sleeve and a guarantee dated 1989.
The fully Gold plated Waterman Gentleman is a top quality pen with a great deal of presence. It is not a common pen by any means and is already very collectable. They turn up very rarely.
