The Waterman's Champion 501 was probably made from around 1946, it bears a striking resemblance to the Waterman-Jif 'New Look' pens of that period.
Finished in light grey celluloid with Gold filled trim, the set, comprising a fountain pen and propelling pencil, has been fully serviced and is in excellent condition throughout. It has a bright, unfaded surface with very sharp imprints and excellent gold filling to the clips, cap bands, and lever.
At 13.6 cm. capped and an impressive 16.2 cm. capped the 501 is a long, slim, and elegant pen, markedly different from and more modern in design than the more common Waterman pens of the period.
The 14 Ct. Gold Waterman W2-B nib writes with a fine line which flexes to medium with a little pressure on the downward strokes, adding character to the writing.
The pencil has a smooth rotary action, operated by rotating the cone to extend and retract the lead.
The set is presented in its original box along with instructions for the pen and pencil. The box is sound, with a very clean, unstained interior.
The Waterman's Champion 501 is not a common pen by any means and a complete set in such outstanding condition comes along very rarely.
