The Waterman's Ideal 0552 is a full sized pen with a rolled gold overlay and clip, much harder to find than the short 0552V 'vest pocket' version. The term 'Gothic' was used by Waterman for the hand engraved 'checked' pattern. This particular model appeared in the catalogues from 1922 to about 1925.
The pen has been restored, tested, and is in excellent working condition, a new ink sac was fitted.
Made in the U.S.A., the pen has no dents to the casing and is not personalised, the engraved pattern is still sharp. There is no model number imprint but it is definitely a 0552 and the manufacturer,s barrel and cap imrints are clear and crisp.
The nib is the original, correct 'Waterman's Reg. US' no.2. It writes with a smooth line and has a good amount of flex. The pen is well balanced and is a huge 17cm. in length when posted.
At around a hundred years old, this pen has all the attributes of a highly collectable pen: quality, condition, age, and rarity.
