The Burnham 51 was made from the mid 1940s, this is an early version in black with Gold filled trim and a 14Ct. Gold flexible nib.
The pen has been fully restored and tested and is in excellent condition. It has a good shine and a very clear and crisp barrel imprint. Unusually for a Burnham, the Gold plating on the clip, cap band, and lever has held up well over the last seventy odd years.
The cap is a very smooth and secure screw fit, tightening with a full two and a half turns. The clip is retained by a deep peaked cap stud, it is this that helps date the pen as an early version.
The pen measures 12cm. capped but when posted it is a very comfortable and well balanced 14.5cm. in length. The 14Ct. Gold Burnham nib writes with a small but pleasing amount of flex.
