Burnham were awarded the contract to produce the Chatsworth pens, for Boots stationary, just after the end of the second world war in 1945. The pens were based on the Burnham 56/55 lineage, the high domed cap stud, washer clip, and single cap ring identifying this example as an early pen.
The pen is in outstanding condition and is presented in the original box with filling instructions. The marbled green pattern shows no discolouration and has an excellent surface and clear barrel imprint. Unusually for a Burnham, the gold filling has held up very well.
A new ink sac has been fitted as the original had deteriorated with age, it fills well taking up a good volume of ink. The nibs on these pens were made by Burnham but stamped as 'warranted 14Ct. gold'. The pen writes with a smooth, medium line with a small amount of flex and a pleasing 'soft' feel.
