Burnham produced the No.56 around 1950, it is a Gold nibbed pen that was available in a number of marbled finishes, this multicoloured Burgundy/Pearl/Gold version is particularly unusual and attractive.
The pen has been serviced, including a new ink sac, and is in excellent working condition. The colouurs have not faded and it has a good surface. The gold fill on the lever and twin cap bands have survived well, that on the clip not so much.
The pen has a capped length of 12.8 cm.,14.5 cm posted so it is a medium sized pen. The cap is a smooth screw fit, tightening with two and a quarter turns.
The lever filling system works well and the 14Ct. Gold nib delivers a suoer smooth medium line, it is a very 'easy' writer.
The Burnham No. 56 is not easy to find, particularly in this eyecatching colour. It is a collectable pen but would serve well as a vintage daily writer.
