Conway Stewart 115 Drop Needle Stylographic Pen.

Regular price

The Conway Stewart 115, made in 1954, was the last of the stylographs, or ink pencils, made by the company.  There had been a number of iterations of the 'needle point', culminating in this 'drop needle' design which uses a weighted needle activated by gravity rather than the cumbersome and less reliable coiled wire spring.

A lever filler, the pen has been restored and rested and is in good working condition.  The ink sac that was removed was the original conway sac, showing that this was the first restoration and the pen had not been used for decades.  The original, sac will be included as part of the provenancee of the pen.  It is interesting to note that the feed features a multi finned 'ink collector' arrangement similar to that used in the Parker 51 pen, the first time I've seen it in a Conway Stewart.

The pen is attractively finished in marbled light and dark blue with gold filled trim.  It has an excellent surface with a strong barrel imprint and the gold filling has held up very well.

The needle point writes with a firm, extra fine line, it would be ideal for someone with a small 'hand' or for drawing or more detailed work.

The original box is in fair condition, it should be noted that these boxes were manufactured with a 'distressed' appearance. The Instruction leaflet is unusually comprehensive and in good order.

The Conway Stewart 115 is something of an anachronism and is a rare pen. This example would fit well into a Conway collection.
