Conway Stewart 55. Duro nib.

Regular price

The Conway Stewart 55 appeared just as wartime restrictions of pen manufacture was relaxed in 1946.  It is a traditional 'straight sided' pen, one of the last.  Along with many other manufacturers Conway Stewart moved towards more strealined models shortly after the war ended.

Finished in marbled green/black with a triple cap band, the pen is fully restored and is in excellent condition throughout.  The surface has a deep lustre and the gold filling has held up remarkably well.

The lever filling system works well and the 14Ct. Gold Duro nib writes with a firm, fine  line.   The Duro nib was an expensive upgrade made from thicker gold that was reserved for the pens towards the top of the range.

The capped length of the pen is 13 cm. but it grows to an impressive 15.5cm. when the cap is posted for use.  It is a large and very tactile, well balanced pen with a solid, high quality feel. It is a pen with a great deal of presence.

The box is brand new, it is high quality and will serve well for protection, transport, and display.

At around seventy seven years old with a degree of rarity and in such good condition this Conway Stewart 55 meets all the criteria for a collectable vintage fountain pen.  It is a fine example of high quality English pen manufacture.
