Conway Stewart Dinkie 550 in Red Candle Flame

Regular price £75.00

The Conway Stewart Dinkie fountain pen was made, in a bewildering variety of styles and finishes, from the early 1920s up until 1972.  This pen, the 'Dinkie 550' is a 1950s version.

The colour, pearlised red 'flames' against a dark background, is described as ' Red Candle Flame', a design first seen in the Conway 16 and 17 models. I think it describes it pretty well.  The surface is excellent and has a clear barrel imprint, the Gold filling on the cap stud, clip, cap band, and filler lever has held up well.

The Dinkie is a small pen and most users find it much more comfortable to write with the cap 'posted' on the end of the barrel.  The pen fills well and the 14Ct. Gold nib writes with a medium line and a small suggestion of flex giving a degree of line variation.

Occasionally a particular variant of a vintage pen model attracts much more attention from collectors and pen enthusiasts than other pens in the range.  The Red Candle Flame is such a pen, and is among the most desirable, and collectable, of all the Dinkie variations.
