The Lady Sheaffer 620 XG is a de luxe version of the Lady Sheaffer 620. It is easily differentiated from the 620 in that it has a Gold filled Florentine band (X) and a solid 14Ct. Gold nib(G).
Produced in the 1970s this set, comprising a fountain pen and ballpoint is presented in its original case. The set is in mint condition throughout and may well be unused, although I have inked the pen, once, for testing purposes.
The pen is fitted with the original sheaffer ink converter and a new ink cartridge is included so the pen is ready to write in either configuration.
The inset nib is clearly marked '14K' for 14Ct. Gold. It writes extremely well, delivering a smooth, fine line. It is an 'easy' writer, well suited to someone wiith a small 'hand' or for more detailed work.
The pencil, also in pristine condition, has a rotary mechanism activated by turning the cap to extend and retract the lead. The eraser, which appears unused, can ge removed to access spare leads stored in the barrel.
Undoubtedly one of the most attractive Lady Sheaffers, the 620XG, with its all metal construction, is also very robust. Some of the other finishes on the range do tend to deteriorate quite readily. Sheaffer advertisements described the pen as:
'Brushed silver colour lacquered finish with gold plated Florentine band and clip'
The Sheaffer Lady was produced in about 70 different models at varying levels of trim. The 620XG is one of the high end offerings. A complete boxed set, such as this, in such excellent condition is not at all easy to find.
