Le 2000 by Bayard. 18Ct. Gold nib. 1940s.

Regular price £135.00

Bayard were a major French pen manfacturer from the early 1920s until the 1960s.  The 2000, introduced in the late 1940s, was a range topping De Luxe pen with an 18Ct. Gold nib and a modern streamlined design.

At an 16.3 cm. when posted, the 2000 is a large, impressive celluloid pen with gold filled trim, the clip and lever featuring the Bayard 'spear motif' connecting with the advertising logo depicting a knight with a nib as a shield and a pen for a lance, the Chevalier de Bayard was a famous medieval knight.

The pen has been restored and tested and is in excellent condition throughout. A lever filler, it has a first class surface, a very strong barrel imprint, and the Gold filling has held up very well.

The original 18Ct. Gold Bayard nib is a great writer.  It produces a suoer smooth broadish line and has a small but effective amount of flex to add character to the writing.  It would particularly suit someone with a large 'hand' who enjoys writing with a flourish.

Not dissimilar to the larger Mabie Todd Swan pens of the period, the Bayard 2000 is at least their equal in terms of quality and is much harder to find.  It is a rare and distinguidhed pen with a good deal of presence.
