The 'flat top' Swan self filling pens were produced in sizes 1 and 2 in the mid 1920s. The term 'mottled hard rubber' is now used for both the woodgrain and ripple pens.
The pen has been restored and is in excellent working condition. It has a good surface, a strong barrel imprint, and the gold filling to the clip has held up very well.
The filling system works well and the 14Ct.gold nib writes with a medium to broad line with a great flex giving good line variation, someone with a decent 'hand' would produce impressive results.
At 13.8 cm. capped and a huge 17cm. when posted it is a long, elegant pen of very high quality. At around a hundred years old, a true antique, it is highly collectable and would make a great 'signature pen'.
