Mabie Todd Swan SM100/60. 1939-1940.

Regular price

Introduced in 1939, this version of the Swan SM100/60 was very short lived, as the Mabie Todd factory was destroyed by 'enemy action' in 1941.

The pen is constructed in celluloid with an engine chased pattern, hard rubber, flush fitting filler lever, and nickel plated clip.  The chasing has held up well and the clip is bright and clearly stamped with the Swan logo, which is also very clearly imprinted on the top of the cap.

Mabie Todd made a great deal of the flush fitting lever and made sure it was patented.  apart from adding to the smooth lines of the pen the design had a very practical significance.  Unlike most levers it could not 'catch' on a shirt or jacket pocket when the pen was being replaced, with catastrophic results.

The pen has been restored and tested and is in excellent working condition.  the filling system works well and the 14Ct. Gold nib provides a smooth medium line with a good flex.  Someone with a decent 'hand' would enjoy impressive results.
