Onoto 2052. Superb New Old Stock Plunger Filler. c.1935. A Rare Pen.

Regular price £285.00

The Onoto 2052 was introduced in 1935, it was made until 1937 but the original price sticker on the pen places it in 1935/1936.

Marketed as a 'Ladies pen', the 2052 is characterised by its long, slim profile, unmaked tapered clip, and the threads for attachment of the cap positioned at the very end of the nib section.  The pen is clearly stamped '2052 46', the '46', around the plunger button, denoting the marbled burgundy pattern.  The barrel imprint is crisp and clear and the surface is excellent.

Although the pen is unused I thought it wise to have the seals replaced by an Onoto specialist, as the original type can harden with age. It was noted, during the refurbishment of the filling system, that the pen had 'never seen any ink'.

At 13.7 cm. capped the Onoto is slightly longer than average but with the cap posted for use it grows to a most impressive 17 cm, an unusually long and elegant pen.  Understandably, modern users often prefer not to post the caps on vintage pens but they were designed to be used in the posted configuration as this puts the centre of mass of the pen in the right position for comfortable use.

The Onoto 2052 was only made for a short time and, as a ladies pen, did not sell in large numbers so is consequently now very rare and, in this condition, highly collectable.
