The Parker 17 was made as a 'standard 17' pen and the 'Parker 17 Super Duofold', this pen is a 'Super' version. It features a very wide Gold filled cap band and barrel tassie ring as upgrades to the standard pen. The clip and end stud on the Super are also 'pure Duofold' whereas the standard pen has a simple washer clip and retaining stud.
The '17' was made in four solid colours: black, red, blue and green, this example is classic black, it contrasts well with the bright gold trim.
The pen is in outstanding condition throughout and could well be unused. The surface is excellent, as is the gold filling, and the barrel imprint is crisp and clear. The original 'pli-glass' ink sac is unstained and has remained clear with no darkening.
It is an 'areometric' type filler, a simplified version of that used in the Parker 51. It is efficient and easy to use, it's simplicity is one of the reasons for the longevity of the system.
The nib is a Paker number 4, an almost cylindrical affair in 14Ct. Gold, again quite similar to the Parker 51.
At 13.5cm. capped and 14.5cm. posted for use, the 17 Super is a good sized and well balanced pen. It is well a well proportioned pen, the streamline profile and gold trim work well to give a much more modern and attractive looking pen than the standard 17, it really is quite different.
The Parker 17 Super Duofold is an impressive looking pen, with performance to match and an excellent pedigree. this example is clearly of collectable quality and would also make a first class vintage daily writer.
