The Parker 51 aerometric filling system was introduced in 1948, in 1965 the filler sleeve was changed to a one piece version, as in this pen. In 1969 the 51 was remodelled significantly so this pen can be dated to between 1965 and 1969.
The 51 is often described as 'the best pen ever made', it was often copied but never equalled. This is an outstanding example, it has a Teal blue finish and a good, deep shine.
The colour is most attractive, it is definitely Blue but has a distinct Green tinge, it is not a common '51' colour. Colours of batches do vary slightly, this one has slightly more Green to it than some.
The Gold filled cap is ding free and is fitted with a 'short arrow' clip, pearl coloured end stud and engraved with:
'PARKER'. 1/10 12Ct. R.Gold. Made in England'.
This indicates that the cap is one tenth 12 Ct. Gold by weight.
The pen has been fully serviced and tested. The aerometric filling system works well and takes up a good amount of ink.
The 14 Ct. gold nib has a medium point which lays down a very smooth and consistent medium line. All 51s are good writers but this one is exceptional, it is a pleasure to use.
At sixty odd years old this is a remarkable top quality vintage pen. The 51 is the first choice of many collectors as a daily user, it is totally reliable, stylish and very practical with a great deal of prestige.
