Parker Duofold AF
The Parker Duofold AF replaced the button filling version in 1948 and was, in turn, replaced by the 'Aerometric' in 1953. .
This is a particularly fine example in Black with Gold filled trim. The pen has been fully restored and is in superb working condition. It has a deep lustrous shine, which contrasts well with the Gold trim, and a very crisp barrel imprint. I rarely use the term 'near mint, with pens of this age but this one is certainly thereabouts.
The pen was disassembled, thoroughly cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner and hand finished. A new ink sac and replacement pressure bar were fitted as the old sac had hardened and the pressure bar showed some corrosion. The nib was not removed from the section as it was correctly aligned and all channels were clear, it is usually best to leave the assembly intact unless there is reason to disturb it.
Testing showed that the slightly quirky filling system works well, it fills with just one press on the button and is easy to operate using one hand. The 14Ct. Gold Newhaven nib writes with a firm, fine to medium line.
The box has seen better days but it is almost certainly original and should be kept with the poen.
The Parker Duofold AF is a large, attractive, and prestigious pen, it would make an excellent every day vintage writer.
