The Parker Duofold AF replaced the button filling version in 1948 and was, in turn, replaced by the 'Aerometric' around 1951.
This is a particularly fine pen in Grey with Gold filled trim. The pen has been fully restored and is in good working condition. It has a deep lustrous shine, the barrel has darkened slightly. and a very crisp barrel imprint. The original price and identification stickers are still in place. I've noticed before that the stickers are often placed over the imprint, they were probably intended to be removed by the retailer.
Testing showed that the slightly quirky filling system works well, it fills with just one press on the button and is easy to operate. The 14Ct. Gold nib is a delight, it is a very smooth writer and requires no pressure from the user. I weighed the nib, it's current scrap value is over £30, not that anyone would dream of cashing it in.
The nib is stamped with a letter 'N' for the Parker Newhaven factory, later pens omitted the N but carried a number referring to the nib size.
The box has perhaps seen better days but it is unusual and almost certainly original so should be kept with the pen.
The Parker Duofold AF is a large, attractive 'Senior' sized pen, and one in this condition is highly collectable, but it would also make an excellent every day vintage writer.
