The Parker Slimfold was added to the immensely successful U.K. Duofold range in 1962. The cap and clip design was changed to this Mk. ll design in the late 1960s and the 'New Slimfold' was introduced in 1971. Finished in red with gold trim and a 14Ct. gold nib, this is definitely a 1960s pen.
Despite the name the Slimfold is a very comfortable 14.6 cm. in length when posted for use, only marginally shorter than the Parker 51, although with a simmer profile.
This pen is a superb example. It is 'as new' in all respects and has not been used. As is often the case, this new old stock pen came to me unboxed, as the pens are usually boxed at the point of sale. I have provided a new, high quality box for the pen, it will serve well for transportation, protection, and display.
The factory applied 'chalk marks' are complterly intact. These are actually stencilled in wax and are intended as an aid to the retailer, to be wiped off as the pen is sold. The marks are very fragile and erode quickly as the pen is handled.
It is interesting to compare the quality and price of this pen with a modern equivalent. New gold nibbed pens start at over £100, most are a good deal more. Very few modern pens have a built in filling system, the vast majority use cartridges, not a good thing in terms of plastic consumption, and none have the charm and character of of good vintage pen.
