The Sheaffer Imperial II De Luxe was introduced in 1971 and only ran for two years before the Imperials were replaced by the 'Triumph' pens for 1973. It was the last of the 'true' Imperials.
This pen is a 'Touchdown' filler, one stroke of the plunger fills the pen. The seals have been replaced, as the old ones had become hardened with age, and the pen now fills well.
The pen is finished in an attractive mid blue and has a metal cap with a lacquer coating giving it a good 'pearlised' shine.
The nib, made from unmarked Palladium Silver. is the conical 'Short Triumph' design with the characteristic slightly upturned point. This was intended to maximise the contact area between nib and paper to give a better performance, it works well. The pen writes with a smooth, fine line, ideally suited to someone with a small 'hand' or for more detailed work.
At over fifty years old, the Imperial II De Luxe, one of the most uncommon Imperials, has stood the test of time and is a good candidate as a daily vintage writer.
The pen will be dispatched in a sturdy composite pen box.
