Swan SF2/2 Gold Filled Ring Top Pen. c.1924.

Regular price £195.00

Mabie Todd added the Swan SF2, denoting a self filler with a number 2 nib, to their range in 1920. It was the company's first lever filler and was only made in the number 2 size.  in the early 1920s the American parent company produced a range of Gold filled pens and used a suffix to denote the pattern, in this case '2' for 'lined'.

The pens featured a 'self locking lever', which locks flat when to prevent snagging on clothing when placed in a pocket.  The filling was either 14Ct. or 18Ct. Gold, it was not stamped on the pen but this example certainly looks like 18Ct.

The pen is in truly outstanding condition, it has a deep lustre, the engraving is still sharp, and the imprints clear. It appears to have seen little use, despite its great age, it has certainly been well cared for.

The Mabie Todd  New York nib is the correct, original nib for the pen.   It is a long, slender nib which writes with a fine to medium line and has an  effective amount of flex producing good line variation.

At around a hundred years old, the pen  is probably not best suited as a pen to be carried around as a daily writer but it would make a great 'signature pen' to be kept, on view, and used for letters, addressing, and other worthy occasions. It is a highly collectable item.
