The Waterman 512V Silver Pearl colour was added to the range around 1948. The decorated Gold filled cap band, in addition to the striking colour scheme makes this version of the 512V a real eyecatcher.
The set, comprising a fountain pen and propelling pencil, is in excellent condition throughout and shows little sign of use. It is presented in its original box, which has undergone a fairly poor repair on the outside but the interior is very clean and bright. On the box, the set is described as a 'Ladies writing set'. A guarantee and instructions for use of both pen and pencil is included.
The pen features a 'box lever' system which places less stress on the barrel and prevents 'bulging' around the lever slot. The pearl finish has a first class surface with a sharp barrel imprint, and the Gold filling is very good.
The set has clearly seen little use, evidenced by the presence of the original cardboard price band and the condition of the eraser. This has hardened with age but appears to be unused.
A new ink sac has been fitted to the pen, it fills well and the 14 Ct. Gold W-2A nib writes with a medium line with just enough flex to add character to the writing.
Although the pen was marketed as a 'Ladies pen', it is much more substantial than a Parker Lady or Conway Stewart Dinkie and is very comfortable in use. It would make an attractive and unusual every day vintage writer.
